Store History

The oldest independent book store in the Twin Cities, The Bookcase has roots dating back to the early 1950s in downtown Minneapolis. Legend has it that when Nicollet Mall was under construction in the 1960s, the owners of The Bookcase made the decision to move the store out to Wayzata. It has been there ever since. Our current location at 607 East Lake Street was once the home of Supplee's Community Drug, a popular Wayzata institution for many years. It is the second (and longest) location The Bookcase has had in downtown Wayzata. After being owned for many years in the 1970s and 1980s by Gail See, and then by Peggy Burnet beginning in the early 1990s, The Bookcase was purchased by Charlie Leonard in the spring of 2008.
